SHOPPING
When you arrive, the excellent Co-Op supermarket is open till 10pm, and from 10am to 4pm on Sundays. The post Office stores are also open till late. The delicatessen in No Name Street is open 7days a week (with its excellent bistro.)
There are many places of interest in and around the town of Sandwich. Booklets and leaflets can be obtained from the Visitor Information Centre, situated in the Guildhall, just across the road from St. John's Cottages.
Sandwich Public Library can issue a visitor's ticket, so you can use its computers and browse its collection.
Sandwich has, for a small town, a surprising choice of shops, including cafés, restaurants, take-aways and pubs offering hot food.
Market day is every Thursday morning, beside the Guildhall.

THE MALTHOUSE IN HYTHE
If your visit includes a Friday or Saturday, you may like to drive about 22 miles to Hythe's famous indoor market with some 37 stalls selling antiques, bric-a-brac and collectors' items, and visit the garden café.
It is called The Malthouse, and was converted by us in 1974.
Find it at the Ashford end of the High Street. Have lunch at the Malthouse Café (as we often do) and stroll around Hythe, another of Kent's historic Cinque Ports. see: Hythe Town - http://hytheguide.co.uk
OTHER TOWNS
Canterbury City
Canterbury is only 12 miles from Sandwich - you could spend the day visiting the historic Cathedral and enjoying the many sights and shops in the city.
Take a bus from opposite the cottages, or drive to one of its three "park and ride" bus stations.
