Sandwich & Attractions

There are many places of interest in and around the town of Sandwich, booklets and leaflets can be obtained from the Tourist Information Office, situated in front of the Guildhall, just across the road from St. John's Cottages. Sandwich Public Library can issue a visitor's ticket, so you can use its computers to check your email, and borrow DVDs and videos. Sandwich has for a small town a surprising choice of shops (over 70 in the town centre) and some 22 cafés, restaurants, take-aways and pubs offering hot food.

Other Towns

The Malthouse - Hythe

Malt HouseIf your visit includes a Friday, Saturday or Bank Holiday Monday, you may like to drive about 22 miles to Hythe's famous indoor market with some 37 stalls selling antiques, bric-a-brac and collectors' items. It is called The Malthouse, and was converted by us in 1974. Find it at the Ashford end of the High Street. Say hello to our manager, Marlene Amos, have lunch at the Malthouse Café (as we often do) and stroll around Hythe, another of Kent's historic Cinque Ports.

Canterbury

Canterbury is only 12 miles from Sandwich - you can spend the day visiting the historic Cathedral and enjoying the many sites and shops in the town. Take a bus from opposite the cottages.

Paris

Ashford International Station, which with its multi-storey car park is only 27 miles by car or train from Sandwich.  So a day trip to Paris (2 hours from Ashford) is easy. "LE SHUTTLE" continues to be popular with many people staying with us, for day trips by car, including shopping and lunch in Calais or Boulogne. Bring your passport just in case.
