St. John's Cottages: Facilities

St. John's Cottages are small and simple, still of the same size and attractive appearance as the 1805 original, but brought up to date.

Each cottage is ideal for two, but can accommodate up to three people. Children or one small and well-behaved dog are welcome, by prior agreement.

Living Room

The front door enters the cosy double-glazed living room with its coal-burning open fire and storage radiator. Portable electric heaters are also provided. There is a fireside cupboard, fitted carpet and pretty curtains both here and in the bedroom. Modern Flat-screen TV with Freeview and DVD player. Free Wi-fi .A sofa that converts easily into a small double bed; a comfortable armchair; small dining table and chairs; table lamps; framed prints and watercolours.

Kitchen

Off the living room is a tiny modern kitchen, with tiled walls, electric cooker, small refrigerator, stainless steel sink unit, small working surface, china cupboards, and door to garden. Electric kettle, toaster, pots, pans, crockery, cutlery, glasses, etc. An iron and ironing board are provided. N°2 has a slightly larger kitchen, with washing machine.

Bathroom

Also on the ground floor, off the staircase lobby, is the small bathroom with fully tiled walls, panelled bath with hand-held chromium shower attachment (except N°4, which has a shower cabinet instead of a bath), wash basin, w.c, infra-red electric heater, and shaver point. Hot water is supplied by an immersion heater.

Bedroom

A typical cottage has one bedroom, approached by a winding staircase, with handrail. Comfortable twin beds that can be pushed together to make a double bed; blankets, duvets, electric blankets, pillows (but not linen or towels unless you ask especially, as we find that visitors usually prefer to bring their own); chest of drawers, dressing table, bedside tables and lamps, hanging space, storage radiator. N°2 is slightly larger. Its first floor is a suite of 3 rooms: a double bedroom, a dressing room fitted with a single 5ft 9in (1750 mm) bed, and the bathroom. Numbers 1 and 2 do not have sofa beds.

Garden

Cottages Numbers 1 - 2 and 3 have their main lawned garden in front, and an enclosed yard at the back. Numbers 4, 5 and 6 have their small enclosed gardens at the back, and look onto our herb garden at the front. Each cottage has its own garden table and chairs.

Parking

Parking should present no difficulty, as our private hardstanding in front of the cottages is available as a small car park.
